The term "vegan" is often used for clothing, but it's not always clearly protected. A truly vegan T-shirt has to hold up on several fronts – not just the material.
1
The fabric
Cotton usually forms the base. For it to be vegan, it simply needs to be free of animal fibers (e.g. wool, silk) – which is generally the case with pure organic cotton.

The print
Many classic textile print inks contain animal-based binders like gelatin or casein. Vegan inks avoid these entirely and rely on plant-based or synthetic binders instead.

Labels and finishing
Seam tapes, adhesives, and labels can also contain animal-derived materials. Only once the entire production chain has been checked can a garment be considered fully vegan.

How to spot real quality: Independent seals like PETA-Approved Vegan check exactly these criteria. Combined with GOTS certification for the organic cotton, you can be sure your T-shirt was truly made without animal-derived materials and under fair conditions.
