Veganism FAQ
Whether you've been vegan for years or are just considering taking the step.
Getting started & everyday life
What's the best way to start living vegan? +
Most people do well switching step by step – e.g. replacing milk and eggs first, then meat, then clothing and cosmetics. It doesn't have to be perfect overnight.
Is a vegan diet more expensive? +
Staples like legumes, grains, and seasonal vegetables are usually cheaper than meat. Costs tend to rise mainly with heavily processed vegan substitute products.
What if family or friends don't understand? +
Many vegans face questions or skepticism at first. It often helps to explain patiently, cook together, and avoid framing your choice as a reproach.
Nutrition & health
Do I get enough protein on a vegan diet? +
Yes – legumes, tofu, tempeh, seitan, nuts, and whole grains provide enough protein as part of an overall varied diet.
Do I need to supplement vitamin B12? +
Yes, B12 only occurs in meaningful amounts in animal products or fortified foods. Supplementation is generally recommended on a fully plant-based diet – ideally in consultation with a medical or nutrition professional.
Is a vegan diet suitable for children or pregnant women? +
This is individual and should always be discussed with a medical or nutrition professional to ensure adequate nutrient intake.
Ethics & environment
Why is animal farming an environmental issue? +
Animal farming requires significantly more land and water compared to plant-based agriculture and causes a large share of global greenhouse gas emissions.
What does "cruelty-free" actually mean? +
The term usually refers to cosmetics and consumer goods made without animal testing. It's not automatically the same as "vegan" – a product can be cruelty-free yet still contain animal-derived ingredients.
Vegan fashion
What makes clothing "vegan"? +
Neither the fabric, print, glue, nor label may contain animal-derived materials – read more in our article Vegan T-Shirts Without Animal Suffering.
How do I recognize trustworthy vegan fashion? +
Independent seals like PETA-Approved Vegan and GOTS for organic cotton give assurance that the entire supply chain has actually been verified.
